An all-new 1-litre K10 petrol engine powers the 2021 Maruti Celerio. Producing a power of 65 PS and a peak torque of 89 Nm, it is the right choice for Celerio. The smooth and refined engine is available in both manual and AMT variants and offers a mileage of around 24.97 km/l to 26.68 km/l

Tata Tiago has got a more powerful engine, though it may not be necessary for such a car. The 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine generates a power of 86 PS and a max torque of 113 Nm. The manufacturer claims it to provide a mileage of around 19.8 km/ litre. Maruti Celerio outperforms Tiago in this front as well.

Both the cars fight inch-by-inch in the case of dimensional specifications. One may not find it easy to choose the right car just by comparing their dimensions. Notwithstanding, Maruti Celerio is a clear winner in the case of boot space. 2021 Celerio has a boot space of 313 ltr compared to the 242-litre boot space of Tiago. Further, Maruti Suzuki Celerio is more spacious than Tata Tiago is. Therefore, it may be the ideal option for families with grown-up children.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio manual transmission variant is priced between 4.99 lakh and 6.44 lakh. At the same time, the Celerio AMT would cost 6.13 lakh to 6.94 lakh ex-showroom.

Tata also has been specific about the pricing of the car. Tiago has been priced in the right range to give a tough fight to the rivals. The Tata Tiago manual transmission model ex-showroom price ranges from 4.99 lakh to 6.5 lakh. The AMT variant of Tiago will cost from 6.25 lakh to 7.05 lakh.

Although we may say both are in the same price range, Maruti Suzuki Celerio is a tad cheaper than Tata Tiago.

Our Verdict

We believe it would be the Maruti Suzuki Celerio, which would win the stiff competition in the end. Besides having a strong identity and having an eminent track record, the 2021 model Celerio has been incorporated with a plethora of features. The technically advanced variant at an affordable price is going to hook the car buyers quite effectively.

Tata Tiago is not much behind in the competition. The drawback, that may impact the sales, is the lack of adequate service centres. One thing that Maruti Suzuki is proud of is its extensive network of servicing centres around the country.
